Choosing An Air Mattress

You need an air mattress if you want to experience the outdoors without giving up the comforts of home.

But what makes a good air mattress? There are several things to consider, such as size, material, durability, and maintenance. When choosing an air mattress, it helps to look around a bit to make sure you get the best mattress your budget allows. Here are some of the things you should look for.

A strong base

Your air mattress should be able to stand the hard, rough ground of your campsite. Look for one with a thick base that won’t be punctured by little twigs and rocks. It should also be waterproof because moisture can build up on the ground overnight. Dimpled or textured bottoms will make it stronger against punctures.

Portability

Make sure you can fit your air mattress into your backpack. There are several roll-up and fold-up models available, which you can either place inside or strap on top of your luggage. It shouldn’t be too heavy or bulky when rolled up. When choosing a mattress, ask to see both the inflated and rolled-up versions so you can better gauge its portability.

Easy setup

Whether you’re using it as a guest bed or camp bed, your air mattress should be easy to set up. Most will come with an air pump – some are manual or foot-powered, while others are electric. Electric pumps are easier to use, but you’ll need a reliable power source if you’ll be taking it outdoors.
