Excellent Uses for Air Mattresses

If you have not seen an air mattress lately, then you really have no idea of the great number of things you can use an air mattress for. The days of the old thin relatively useless air mattresses are long gone. The air mattresses of today have evolved into comfort beds that can be inflated with a hair dryer. If you think that the only time an air mattress comes in handy is a camping trip then you really need to have another think.

Here are a few instances where an air mattress is extremely useful:

* Camping. Of course we couldn’t leave this instance out of the mix. These mattresses are perfect for any camping trip whether you are ‘roughing it’ in a tent, staying in an RV, or a cabin, an air mattress can help you get a great nights sleep.

* Overnight guests. You no longer have to have an extra bed that takes up perfectly useful space in your home in order to have quests spend the night. With an air mattress any room can become a guest bedroom in seconds and when they wake in the morning you can have the entire mattress put away in a matter of minutes.

* Dorm rooms. If you have kids preparing for colleges I am sure you will find that adequate bedding can be expensive. Even if they have dorm mattresses, those mattresses can be rough for a good nights sleep and some of today’s dorms and college apartments aren’t even equipped with basic bedding anymore. These air mattresses offer a valid alternative for sleep options.

* Sleepovers and inside campouts with the kids. If you have kids then I’m sure you’re already thinking of the great fun your kids can have with an air mattress. You can have indoor campouts and slumber parties and sleepovers galore.

If this doesn’t have your imagination going, I’m not sure what it would take. Be creative and think of all the fun things you can do with an air mattress. They sure have come a long way since the days of old. If you haven’t tried one lately, you might find that they are more comfortable than your bed. So try one out today and see what thoughts come to mind.

Why Raised Air Beds Rock

In recent years, air bed design has begun to transcend to accommodate the ever-growing demands of consumers. One significant change in air bed design has been the adoption of a double high design. Since the average person is accustomed to sleeping several feet off the floor, air bed manufacturers have started making air beds that mimic the height of a traditional mattress.

Raised, or double high air beds, offer several advantages over shorter air beds. To begin with, their increased distance from the floor allows for a warmer sleeping experience. Since shorter air beds are closer to floor (which tends to be rather cold during the night), they can cause sleep interruptions and thus a poor sleeping experience. Raised air beds eliminate these minor yet irritating problems.

The increased height which raised air beds have to offer also works to ease the burden on those getting in and out of bed. Older citizens and those with back problems have always had issues getting in and out of air beds. This has come as a result of the beds' small distance from the floor. Raised air beds remedy this issue and allow for easier maneuverability in and out the bed.

Finally, raised air beds can save you time and anger by dampening the effects of air loss. Raised air beds store almost twice the volume of air that traditional air mattresses carry. This extra air works wonders in terms of reducing the effects of air loss. A twenty percent loss of air is much less noticeable in a raised air bed than it is in a typical air mattress. Thus, when such air loss occurs in raised air bed, owners don't need to be as diligent in refilling it. On the other hand, those with a typical air mattress may have to awake in the middle of the night to re-inflate their bed.

Now that you're in the know of all the benefits raised air beds have to offer, you can go ahead and purchase one! Although it may cost you more upfront, it will surely pay for itself in the future.

Why Air Beds May Give You The Best Nights Sleep You've Ever Had

The secret to an air beds high comfort factor is its ability to spread the bodies weight and contact with the mattress in a more even fashion. Traditional mattress designs are more rigid and can force certain points of the body in contact with the mattress to absorb the entire weight of the body, creating concentrated pressure points that are uncomfortable and often out of natural alignment. Air beds have the ability to mold and shape to the contour of a sleeping body and were originally designed for hospitals and medical environments where higher levels of back support and reduced pressure points on the body were needed. Now this technology can be invited into your own bedroom to create a more comfortable sleeping environment.

An air bed is basically a mattress that contains air bladders instead of hard steel springs. Air beds can often also be adjusted to suit the particular support needs of partners that share a bed, as each side usually has individual air bladder controls that can be adjusted. The adjustable dual air support chambers can provide just the right amount of back support and firmness on one side of a bed without disturbing the other side. Sleeping on an air bed can also provide better spinal alignment through the night, giving you a very comfortable and restful sleep.

Several air beds are endorsed by the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations as good for people with back backs and back support problems. In addition, air beds can help people with allergies by reducing the available nesting ground for dust mites. The traditional coil mattress is usually the largest breeding and nesting ground of dust mites in a household and can contain as many as 5 million dust mites feeding on skin particles that have filtered into the inner mattress core. With an air bed mattress system you do not have this problem, which can help improve your breathing while asleep.

The Sleep Number Bed - Advantages and Disadvantages of the Top-Selling Air Mattress

You've probably seen the TV commercials.

And it seems to be the buzz among mattress shoppers. I'm talking, of course, about the Sleep Number bed.

If you don't already know, the Sleep Number bed is an airbed. It uses air as the main supporting feature -- as opposed to innersprings, water or memory foam.

I'm going to tell you about its main advantages of disadvantages.

I first, however, want to tell you that I'm uniquely qualified to give this information. That's because I recently spent at least 250 hours scouring through nearly 50 online forums, message boards, consumer websites, etc. gathering information from at least 1,600 people on what they think of their mattresses.

Advantages

Comfort -- Most people are pleased with the comfort of their Sleep Number bed. In fact, those who like the bed often do so passionately.

Adjustable firmness -- The Sleep Number bed provides adjustable firmness at the push of a button, as do most air beds. More air in the mattress means more firmness, and vice versa. The Sleep Number bed offers duel air chambers which allow two people sleeping on the bed to have their own firmness setting. And the bed is called "Sleep Number" because the firmness level is indicated by a number. The firmer the setting is, the higher the number.

Disadvantages

Air loss -- All air mattresses by their nature will lose air over time (permeation), and air will need to be added to compensate. However, according to my research, about 11% of Sleep Number bed owners reported frequent and significant air loss. This apparently was mostly due to faulty air pumps and connections and not merely permeation.

Trench / intrusion in middle of bed -- According to my research, about 14% of Sleep Number bed owners said that there was a trench or intrusion in the middle of the bed between the two air chambers. This was especially noticeable when the two chambers had very different firmness levels. This trench / intrusion could undermine the bed's comfort and discourage intimate encounters among couples.
