Latex Foam Beds

Latex is a rubbery, white, and fluid-like substance that can be extracted from the seeds of various plants. It is also synthetically produced in the laboratory through a process known as polymerization. There are many uses for latex including serving as a key ingredient in the production of paints, adhesives and even in mattresses.

What's Behind Latex Foam Beds?

A growing trend in the mattress industry is that of latex foam beds. As their name indicates, latex foam beds are obviously made out of latex. However, consumers do have the option of purchasing a totally natural latex foam bed or one made out of a chemically equivalent version of latex. No matter what type of latex is used, the process of making a latex foam bed is primarily the same. The latex is whipped into foam and then poured into a mold. As the latex sets, it solidifies into the permanent mattress shape.

For added comfort, all latex foam beds are made with openings in them that are called pincore holes. If you prefer a softer bed, you should look for one with larger holes. However, some latex foam beds can be designed with pincore holes in varying sizes to provide different levels of comfort throughout the mattress.

In addition to the ability to choose an independent comfort level, a lot of people like latex foam beds because they provide a bouncy yet supportive feel. In addition, latex is a hypoallergenic material and is thus more resilient to dust mites.

What Is The Best Memory Foam Mattress To Buy?

The Tempur-Pedic mattress was the original viscoelastic mattress and it's claimed to be still the best. But now that all the major brands are producing their own versions, does it still hold true that the Tempur is the best memory foam mattress?

There's no such thing as the best memory foam mattress, rather the best one is one that best suits your requirements. It's true that there are cheap versions out there that are pretty useless and won't give you the support you need and that aren't going to last more than 5 minutes.

But if there's one determining factor that separates the good from the bad it's density. All quality mattresses will have a density of 5 lbs or more. In case you don't know about foam density, it means how much 1 cubic foot of foam weighs; so a quality piece of memory foam that is 1 foot high by 1 foot wide and 1 foot in depth will weigh at least 5 lbs. Some manufacturers may tell you that their 'special' formula means that their 4lb density mattress is a good as more dense mattresses, but don't believe a word of it. All it means is that their product has more air and less foam and cost a lot less to make.

But now let's talk about specific brands. The original memory foam mattress was by Tempur-Pedic and it still remains the market leader. At first only one version was made but now the company makes several, each offers different finishes, memory foam thickness, base foam thickness etc. The Tempur-Pedic OriginalBed is more or less the original version and in my opinion is still their best model. It comes with 5.3 lbs density foam and comes with a no-fuss terry cloth cover that is dust mite resistant and hypoallergenic. At the other end of the scale there's the GrandBed. With this bed mattress there is a pillow top using a softer version of memory foam called Tempur HD. It comes encased in a very plush, blended silk cover. This model costs several times more than the OriginalBed. However, if you want a luxurious memory foam mattress take a look at the Simmons ComforPedic instead.

The Simmons ComforPedic Mystere is probably the best memory foam mattress in the high-end, luxurious category. The look of it is very appealing; there's a washable, velour cover on top that is attached to a beautiful suede side cover, about 3" down the side of it. The mattress sits on top of a suede foundation. The top layer of memory foam is less dense than the secondary layer that has a density of 5.9 lbs. The nice thing about this mattress is the base layer of latex foam that helps to give it a certain 'springiness' - a characteristic missing in other viscoelastic mattresses.

Many complain of sleeping hot in a viscoelastic mattress. To address this problem just about all manufacturers have introduced an additional layer of convoluted high density foam to help improve air circulation. I doubt the efficacy of this convoluted layer and believe it's more of a sales pitch than effective solution. However, another manufacturer has taken a more intelligent approach. The Restonic SensiSleep mattress incorporates 'phase change materials'. The company has worked in partnership with a company called Outlast Technology. This company has patent rights for ground breaking temperature-regulating technology; its fabrics are used in many items including comforters/duvets and clothing. If you want a cool viscoelastic bed mattress, the Restonic is definitely worth considering.

Sealy are the world's largest mattress manufacturer so it's not surprising it has its own version of memory foam bed sets. There are three mattresses to choose from; the 8, 9 and 11 series. The 8 and 9 series sleep 'firmish', while the 11 series (the number denotes the thickness of the mattress) contains an additional comfort core. Its mattresses represent good value for money; no fancy silk coverings, pillow top and such like. If you want a no-nonsense, good mattress the Sealy is worth considering.

Finding the best memory foam mattress is about finding the one that best suits your sleep requirement, aesthetic requirement and budget constraints. If possible test as many out as possible and compare. My recommendation is the original and, in my opinion, still the best Tempur-Pedic mattress (OriginalBed).

Why is a Mattress so Important?

Buying a mattress can always be put off until later. Or can it? You shouldn’t scrimp on the single most used piece of furniture in your house. This single item has a lot to do with your health and well being also. How and why should I select a mattress that’s right for me?

First, you must understand two basic mattress construction terms. The core is where the springs and structure are. This is what determines the longevity and support. Old mattresses used an inner spring design. Usually, the more inner springs used in a mattress, the better it was. Not so anymore. A current mattress design uses “zones” to locate the number and types of springs since our body weight is not evenly distributed, then why should the springs in our mattress?

The second construction term for a mattress is the upholstery. Several different types of foams, fibers, and materials make up this top layer. This gives the mattress the pillow top or soft feeling. Springs are there for support of this comfort layer.

I personally am sleeping on a Simmon’s Beauty Rest Back Care mattress. It has the wrapped spring coils and several comfort layers. It even has some memory foam. It is an excellent bed and it was reasonably priced.

I looked at several models today. It seems the inner spring mattress will be going to the way side after a few years. Everyone wants a memory foam bed. They have several to choose from, but they are all made out of the same material. This foam is nice and Sealy and Serta have finally come on board with their versions. The tepurpedic has been out there the longest and seems to be the best quality at the best price.

However, foam mattresses just don’t look like a regular bed. They look like a flashback to the days of the popular water beds. Its just not what we are accustomed to seeing. King Koil came out with a combination of this model. A traditional looking mattress, with contemporary foam for a core. You get the look of a regular bed with the benefit of a solid foam core. No more inner springs.

Comes to find out, the most sold mattress in the store where I was at, was the King Koil brand as I described above. Actually, the top 3 sellers were all King Koil brand, with only one of the three have an inner spring coil.

Beds weren’t meant to last forever. You can chunk it and get another. If it’s bad enough for you to get a new one, don’t pass it on and give problems to someone else, either. And don’t sell your old mattress as it is against the law in some states.

Revolutionary New Foam Mattress Technology Relieves Back Pain

While most current technologies in the mattress industry are focusing on finding a single material that is a panacea to all back pain problems, the Institut ProSchlaf has seen the vision of a mattress constructed of multiple foam densities that can be customized and tailored to meet the needs of your body. It can also be reconfigured if your body changes. This revolutionary foam mattress technology debuted this week at the World Market Center in Las Vegas with many other mattress manufacturers but was the only mattress of its kind. Spaldin, a Spanish Sleep Systems Company has teamed up with Hans Malzl to bring this new technology to the United States. Spaldin's new foam mattress is named Vitario.

Vitario is composed of 24 channels that can have inserts of different foam densities inserted to customize the mattress to the unique shape and body type of the individual. With different densities of foam the body then is cradled in a cushion unlike any mattress on the market today. This revolutionary foam mattress makes it possible to get and good nights rest and wake up without the back aches and pains that normally accompany mattresses of just a single density. With the ability to reconfigure the foam mattress inserts as the bodies needs change, the may mean this is the last mattress you would ever own.

Back pain suffers watch out for this new technology it might be the unique relief you have been needing and looking for.

This new foam mattress sleep technology was so interesting that Furniture Today, a weekly furniture magazine and Mattress Online Magazine both wrote articles discussing this new foam mattress sleep technology. It was even picked up on the Pro Sleep Tech website where images of the mattress technology, Hans Malzl and the Spaldin team were also displayed. Search on Google for Vitario mattress to find the articles and websites for more information.

It's great to see the innovation of European companies picking up the slack in the industry and stepping out with fresh new ideas rather than rehashing the same old sleep technologies. Bravo to Hans Malzl, Director of Research at Institute ProSchlaf and Andreas Kainz PhD., MD. and Medical Consultant to the Institut ProSchlaf for daring to step out and explore new territory in foam mattress technology and changing the face of the current sleep culture and the to Spaldin team for their efforts to help bring this revolutionary foam mattress technology to the United States.

Special Features of Full Size Mattresses

Mattress size would be the key feature or factor to consider when purchasing a mattress, particularly if you are shopping for a mattress as a couple. Mattresses come in different sizes: king size mattress, queen size mattress, full size mattress, single size mattress and twin size mattress. A full size mattress has dimensions that are close to the dimensions of other mattresses; you may find it difficult to tell the difference between a full size mattress and its other counterparts.

Similar to other mattress types, a full size mattress is composed of several layers of fibers, foam or any other forms used as mattress stuffing. Full size mattresses are typically available worldwide, most especially in the United States and other advanced countries. When it comes to thickness, full size mattresses and other large size mattresses are usually between 6 to 18 inches thick.

Different Sizes of Full Size Mattresses

Typically, a full size mattress is just the same as a double size mattress. A full size mattress has a width of 54 inches and length of 75 inches. These measurements apply in North American and Europe. However, in other countries such as those in Asia, full size mattresses have a width of 48 inches and length of 78 inches -- a slight reduction in width and a slight addition in length.

Another kind of full size mattress is the full extra large mattress, which is only found in North America. A full extra large mattress has a width of 54 inches and length of 80 inces, longer than the length of the Asian full size mattresses.

People often get confused between a full size mattress and a queen size mattress due to how close their dimensions are. A queen size mattress typically has a width of 60 inches and length of 80 inches, almost similar to the width and length of a full size mattress. Generally, the size of a full size mattress can vary in the United Kingdom and the other European countries, but the width of both queen size and full size mattress is the same.

Tips When Buying a Full Size Mattress

One major consideration in purchasing a full size mattress is the general finish, the padding and materials used, which must be of good quality. Like queen size mattresses, full size mattresses come in three different comfort levels. In the United States, full size mattresses have a two-year warranty so make sure that the full size mattress you buy is covered with a warranty that is no less than two years.

What Exactly Is The Difference Between "Standard King Comforters" And "California King Comforters"?

What is the difference between a Standard King Size Comforter and a California King Size Comforter?

Many people have heard of "California King Comforters" and also have heard the term "Standard King Comforters" and "Eastern King Comforter" but many people still are confused between the differences in the three.

First, the easy part, "Standard King Comforters" and "Eastern King Comforters" are the same size but different people use their preferred choice a King Size Mattress which has the dimension of 76 in. wide x 80 in. long. Either Standard or Eastern, they are the same thing.

Alot of people seem to think that the term "California King Comforter" is just the next logical step up in size progression from Twin to Queen/Full to Standard King and onto the mighty "California King Comforter".....the term Cali King Comforter even sounds pretty cool and big and bad.

But the reality is that in comparison to A California King Comforter Mattress, the Standard (or Eastern) size Bed Mattress is shorter and wider than a California King Size Mattress and the Comforters that are made for each of them reflect their corresponding measurements.

Simply put, California King Comforters and Mattresses are longer and thinner and Standard King Comforters and Mattresses are shorter and wider.

Length and Width for King Size Bed Measurements:

Standard King Bed Mattress: 76 in. wide x 80 in. long
California King Bed Mattress: 72 in. wide x 84 in. long

The King Size Mattress - The King of All Mattresses

If you are someone who has ever wished to have a bed made for a king, you can walk into a mattress and bedding store and purchase the largest of the standard size mattresses: the king size mattress. A king size mattress is the largest mattress you can purchase before you get into the special orders for a giant mattress.

A king size mattress can truly make you feel like a king if you place it on a standard king size bed frame because the thickness makes it a tall bed. Alternatively, you can place the mattress on the floor without losing any of the available comfort. The thickness of a king size mattress will make you feel comfortable regardless of bed frame.

Like most standard mattresses, a king size mattress can be made with four main styles of support. These would include air chambers, inner springs, foam and water. Depending on your location, there are different sizes to choose from, as well. Overall, there are four common king size mattress types. The dimensions of the different sizes are somewhat dependant on the location.

A regular king size mattress can have three different dimensions. In the United States and Canada, a king size mattress measures 76 inches wide by 80 inches long. In Europe, the same bed is made with the dimensions of 60 inches wide by 75 inches long. In Asia and the rest of the world, a standard king size mattress is 72 inches wide by 78 inches long.

Another option only in the U.S. and Canada is a California king mattress. A California king measures 72 inches wide by 84 inches long. Also available only in the U.S. and Canada is a grand king. A grand king mattress measures 80 inches wide by 98 inches long. Due to its size, a grand king is definitely worthy of its name, measuring in at the largest of all king size mattresses.

The largest king size mattress in Europe is called a super king. A super king sports the same measurements as a regular king size mattress in Asia with a width of 72 inches and length of 78 inches. An individual in the United States looking for a king size mattress will probably only find a king, a California king and a grand king on the display room floor of a mattress store.

King size mattresses are particularly convenient for people who are tall or for someone looking for comfort and thickness. The king size mattress is also a nice choice for durability. The thickness of the mattress helps keep it one of the longest lasting of mattresses. Of course, the size is what truly makes it "fit for a king".
