Finding the Perfect Foam-Bean Bag for Your Home

Bean bags are fun, cheap furniture that are becoming more popular with each passing day. Both adults and children are attracted to bean bags, essentially large blobs of foam, for amusement, comfort, and their versatility. Bean bags are happily making their presence felt in many rooms throughout the home.

There are a wide range of styles and sizes of bean bags, video rockers, foam furniture, foam sleepers and more. The fun is not limited to the kids, as adults can enjoy themselves as well with adult sized bean bags and foam furniture to suit any design or budget.

With time furniture undergoes wear and tear. If your foam furniture is older than 10 years and doesn't feel comfortable any more, it is certainly time to consider replacing it. When buying foam furniture it is important to understand what is good for design and what is good for the body. There are different grades of foam available to the upholsterer or furniture manufacturer.

What should you keep in mind when buying new foam furniture? Foam is rated in three ways: density (quality), indentation load deflection (firmness), and resiliency (lifespan). When analyzing these ratings and considering buying a product, keep the intended use of the product in mind. The density rating is the best indicator of the quality of the foam. Higher densities indicate higher quality foams that will maintain their shape and support for longer periods of time.

It is always advisable to purchase foam materials with the highest possible density ratings to ensure lifespan and comfort. Density is expressed as a two-digit number that may range from 18 to 32 (with a decimal between the two numbers, so a density rating of 18 is actually 1.8 foam). Indentation load deflection measures firmness. An ILD of around 6 is the firmness of a bed pillow (that is, not very firm at all), while an ILD of 45 is the firmness of a firm mattress (quite firm). As far as the ILD goes, it is entirely a matter of taste.

Resiliency refers to lifespan of the product. High Resiliency foam material is produced to offer a long and useful life than non-HR foam. It is also often rated as fire resistant (FR). When buying foam furniture for your home, insist on the use of HR-FR foam materials, since they are safer and longer lasting.

Crushed polyurethane foam used in bean bag chairs will feel soft and contour to your body when you sit, thus providing you a comfortable and relaxing experience. It is perfect for children, teens and adults as it stays soft and plump for years to come.
